In November 2003, the American Cancer Society stated that breast cancer is the top cause of death in ladies between the ages of forty and 44. In the United States, there are approximately 200,000 new cases of breast cancer and more than forty,000 fatalities making the U.S. one of the nations with the greatest death rate because of to breast cancer. Maybe the most alarming statistic is one: 8 ladies will eventually develop breast cancer over their lifetime.

One of the most potent actions a lady can consider to decrease her danger for developing breast cancer is to educate herself about the petrochemicals, or xenoestrogens that are in her environment and function to get rid of or decrease them. Petrochemicals are &quothormone disruptors&quot and it is via the unbalancing of your hormone method that can lead to problems. These xenoestrogens are discovered in cosmetics, lotions and fingernail polish and polish remover. They are clearly discovered in pesticides and insecticides. What you may not be conscious of is that petrochemicals are discovered in plastics. If meals is placed in a plastic container and reheated in the microwave, the plastic melts into your meals and you ingest it. The harder the plastic, the more resistant it is to this procedure but the potential for accidental xenoestrogen ingestion is still present. Merely place, do not reheat meals in plastic containers in the microwave.

Conventional screening methods all examine structure. For instance, mammography utilizes X-ray to examine breast tissue. Any structure that has grown large enough to be seen by X-ray could be detected by mammography. However, mammography can have a high untrue constructive rate. In reality, only one in 6 biopsies are discovered to be constructive for cancer when discovered by mammography or clinical breast examination. This prospects to increased psychological tension, physical trauma and financial issues.

Other dangers of mammography consist of the radiation publicity, although this has been debated by physicians for numerous years. Lately published in Radiation Research, 2004 the author suggests that the dangers associated with mammography screening may be 5 occasions greater than previously assumed and the danger-benefit relationship of mammography needs to be re-examined.

There exists a technologies that can detect a breast problem Many years before a tumor can be seen on X-ray or palpated during an examination. This technologies has been authorized by the FDA as an adjunctive screening device because 1982 and offers NO RADIATION, NO COMPRESSION AND NO Discomfort. For ladies who are refusing to have a mammogram or those who want clinical correlation for an current problem, digital infrared thermal imaging may be of curiosity.

Thermal cameras detect heat emitted from the body and display it as a picture on a pc keep track of. These images are distinctive to the person and stay stable over time. It is simply because of these traits that thermal imaging is a useful and efficient screening device.

Breast thermography has undergone substantial research because the 1950s. There are over 800 peer-reviewed research on breast thermography with more than 300,000 ladies incorporated in large clinical trials. An abnormal thermogram is ten occasions more significant as a long term danger indicator for breast cancer than a first order family background of the disease. A persistently abnormal thermogram carries a 22-fold greater danger of long term breast cancer.

Medical physicians who interpret the breast scans are board licensed and endure an additional two years of coaching to qualify as a thermologist. Thermography is not restricted by breast density and is perfect for ladies who have had cosmetic or reconstructive surgery. It is suggested that because cancer typically has a fifteen yr existence span from onset to death, that ladies begin thermographic screenings at age twenty five.

Thermographic screening is not covered by most insurance companies but is surprisingly inexpensive for most individuals. For more information or to discover a licensed clinic in your area, go to www.proactivehealthonline.com.

We listen to it all the time?shed extra excess weight for your nicely turning into. Couple of people nevertheless, comprehend the extent to which this is crucial to their bodily nicely-turning into and eventually their life expectancy.

In January 2003, the Journal of the American Health-associated Association showcased a research finding that weight problems appears to reduce life expectancy, especially among young grown ups. The researchers compared Physique-Mass Index (BMI) to longevity and discovered a correlation in in between premature death and higher BMIs. For instance, a 20-yr-prior white male, 5’10&ampampquot weighing 288 lbs with a BMI of higher than forty was thought to shed thirteen numerous years of his life as a outcome of weight problems.Jamie McManus, M.D., F.A.A.F.P. and author of &ampampquotYour Personal Manual to Wellness&ampampquot notes that whilst this research referenced intense ranges of weight problems, there are nevertheless hundreds of thousands of obese people in created nations with a life expectancy price that is three to five numerous years much less than their wholesome-extra excess weight counterparts. She also estimates that there are 600,000 weight problems associated fatalities each and every yr in The united states.

Just how does weight problems shorten our lifespan? The answer to this question is complicated, yet there is a clear hyperlink in in between weight problems and the enhancement of cancer. An significant research carried out by the American Cancer Institute involving 750,000 people showed that weight problems significantly elevated the danger of cancer generating in the following organs: breast, colon, ovaries, uterus, pancreas, kidneys and gallbladder.

Michael Thun, MD, vice-president of epidemiology and surveillance study for the American Cancer Tradition (ACS) says 1 cause weight problems may enhance cancer danger is simply because physique fat cells create a type of estrogen known as estradiol that encourages rapid division of cells, expanding chances of a random genetic error whilst cells are replicating, which can lead to cancer. In addition, physique fat centered about the abdomen may enhance insulin and insulin-like ment eles in the blood, which may enhance cancer danger.

“Ladies who are obese following menopause have a fifty% higher relative danger of breast cancer,” notes Thun, “and obese males have a forty% higher relative danger of colon cancer?. Gallbladder and endometrial cancer s are five times higher for obese individuals&ampampquot. There is proof that cancer costs in created nations are expanding at five to fifteen times faster than generating nations. A main contributor to this alarming actuality has confirmed to be diet plan. In populations precisely where the diet plan is made up mainly of clean fruit and veggies and entire grains ? in contrast to the common Western diet plan of fatty meats, refined flours, oils and sugars ? the danger of cancer is much reduce.

The interaction of diet plan and the enhancement of cancer is an energetic area of study and Dr David Heber, M.D., Ph.D. and author of &ampampquotWhat Colour is Your Diet&ampampquot, says &ampampquotIt appears that diet plan has its most significant results following the cancer has already formed, acting to inhibit or stimulate the ment of that cancer&ampampquot. At the danger of oversimplifying a complicated set of interactions, the common Western diet plan that prospective customers to weight problems may really act to stimulate the ment of cancer cells. It is by no means as nicely late to enhance your nicely turning into by way of healthful consuming and adopting a more nicely turning into-supplying way of life. Right here are easy steps to adhere to which can make an immediate enhancement to your nicely turning into and vitality.

Of these, almost half (27%) qualify as obese, with a physique mass index of thirty or more. In 1980, just fifteen% of Us residents had been regarded as obese. You can look at your BMI at the internet website beneath.

Colleen Doyle, MS, RD, director of diet plan and bodily physical exercise for the American Cancer Tradition (ACS), says grown ups ought to do some thing for thirty minutes each and every day that demands as much work as a brisk stroll. Children ought to be energetic for an hour each and every day. We are more most most likely to create routines about issues we appreciate, so appear for actions which you appreciate doing. It is also useful to develop bodily physical exercise into your each and every day system: use the stairs rather of the escalator or increase at perform, park your car in the parking bay furthest from the fantastic advertising and do not use the remote handle to alter Television channels.

6. Get assistance to make particular you create a healthful consuming technique and attain your objective extra excess weight. Whilst a small proportion of people have the discipline to shed extra excess weight, numerous obese people have created powerful ideas and routines concerning the meals they consume.

Ladies require to empower on their personal about the benefits and dangers of mammography and seem at the extra screening sources accessible these days. 1 present philosophy suggests breast well becoming screening ought to begin at age twenty five. Precisely exactly where does this suggestion arrive from and why is this reputable?

For MOST ladies, the suggestion for yearly breast cancer screening starts at the age of forty. Sadly, the American Cancer Tradition stated that the number one set off of demise in ladies in in between the ages of forty-44 is breast cancer. So what does this suggest for ladies? It indicates that we display at age forty and possibly uncover tumors that have been expanding for an thought 8-10 several many years. Mammography, like most standard exams, evaluates creating.

There exists a technologies that can detect an problem Several many years before a tumor can be observed on X-ray or palpated throughout an examination. This technologies has been authorized by the FDA as an adjunctive screening device because 1982 and provides NO RADIATION, NO COMPRESSION AND NO Discomfort. For ladies who are refusing to have a mammogram or those who want medical correlation for an current problem, digital infrared thermal imaging might be of interest.

There are extremely rigid protocols each and every for testing and interpreting. Maybe because of to these ideas, thermography (as with all digital technologies) has exploded in its technique and abilities. Thermal cameras detect heat emitted from the physique and show it as a image on a pc keep track of. These photos are distinctive to the individual and stay regular more than time. It is simply because of these characteristics that thermal imaging is a helpful and effective screening device. Tumors or other breast illnesses measures hotter than bordering tissue and can therefore inform a doctor to a problem before a tumor is really palpable.

Health-linked doctors who interpret the breast scans are board certified and endure an extra two several many years of coaching to qualify as a thermologist. Thermography is not restricted by breast density and is perfect for ladies who have had elegance or reconstructive surgical treatment. It is recommended that because cancer usually has a fifteen yr life span from onset to demise, ladies begin thermographic screenings at age twenty five. As previously talked about, the number one killer of ladies ages forty-44 is breast cancer. Consequently, a woman diagnosed with breast cancer at age forty most likely had the cancer as early as age thirty. Since most ladies do not have a mammogram till age forty, there is a important time interval from age twenty five to 39 that thermography could be particularly helpful. Thermography, simply because it analyzes perform, might determine a problem several many years previously. DITI might allow ladies time and opportunity to help their immune program, alter their lifestyle and give their physique the best opportunity to alter their fate.

By combining each and every technologies, the detection cost raises to 95-98%, surpassing both technologies as a stand-on your personal treatment. Thermography, like mammography, is a individual option for ladies. This choice ideally ought to be created in collaboration in in between you and your doctor. Nevertheless, thermography does not need a physician’s purchase.

Thermographic screening is not covered by most insurance companies but is remarkably affordable for most individuals.

In the United States, American ladies are told to start annual mammographic screening for breast cancer at the age of forty. Long before we’ve reached this age, we are advised to perform a month-to-month breast exam and see our physicians for a medical breast exam (CBE) yearly as nicely. However, the detection price of breast cancer for CBE is only 47% when the tumors are much less than one centimeter whilst mammography has offered us a 70% detection price. By the time a tumor is detected by palpation or discovered mammographically, it has currently been growing and creating for eight-10 many years.

Mammography has a higher untrue constructive price. Only one:six biopsies are discovered to be constructive for cancer when carried out due to a constructive mammogram or CBE. This locations additional stressors on ladies who undergo these methods.

Other risks of mammography include the radiation that each breast is uncovered to throughout a mammogram. During a chest X-ray, a individual gets one/1000 of a RAD, or radiation absorbed dose. This kind of X-ray is a higher power X-ray. During a mammogram, however, the X-ray utilized is a reduced power X-ray and results in one RAD or a 1000-fold higher publicity than a simple chest X-ray. It has been recommended that the reduced power X-ray utilized might trigger higher biological damage which is cumulative over time. In a journal entitled Radiation Study and published in 2004, the author concludes that the risks linked with mammography screening might be Five occasions greater than formerly assumed and the danger-benefit relationship of mammography exposures need to be re-examined.

In 1982, the FDA authorized thermography as an adjunctive tool for breast cancer screening. Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging, also known as DITI measures heat emitted from the physique and is accurate to one/100th of a degree. Licensed Clinical Thermographers adhere to strict recommendations and transmit their scans for interpretation by board licensed thermologists. DITI examines physiology, NOT structure. It is in this capability that DITI can monitor breast Health over time and alert a patient or doctor to a creating problem probably before a lump can be observed on X-ray or palpated clinically. There are no check restrictions this kind of as breast density. Women with cosmetic implants are fantastic candidates for thermography which emits no radiation and no compression. Contact is never produced throughout a thermographic scan.

Clinical research studies continue to assistance thermography’s function as an adjunctive tool in breast cancer screening and the ONLY tool that measures breast well being. There are now much more than 800 publications on over 300,000 ladies in medical trials. A recent finding published in the American Journal of Radiology in 2003 showed that thermography has 99% sensitivity in identifying breast cancer with single examinations and restricted views. Scientists concluded that a damaging thermogram is potent evidence that cancer is not current.

In conclusion, ladies need to start breast well being screening early as young as age 25. This can offer ladies with the earliest feasible indication that additional investigation is essential. It takes approximately 15 many years for a breast cancer to form and lead to death. If &quotearly detection is the greatest prevention,&quot let’s begin using technologies that truly allows for the earliest feasible alert to a creating problem.

Thermographic screening is not covered by most insurance companies but is surprisingly affordable for most people. For much more information or to find a licensed clinic in your area, go to www.proactivehealthonline.com.

Most women are familiar with mammography as our “gold regular” for breast cancer screening. Nevertheless, there are additional resources accessible that women can include to their arsenal.

1 of the most efficient resources in breast cancer screening is breast self-examination (BSE). Nevertheless, BSE functions greatest when women are appropriately trained in the procedure, and then followed-up with yearly clinical breast exams (CBE) from their physicians. In a 2000 University of Toronto study, roughly 20,000 women had been screened for breast cancer with BSE and yearly CBE, and 20,000 had been screened with BSE and mammograms. Following much more than ten years, the BSE and yearly CBE reported 610 instances of invasive breast cancer, and 105 deaths. In the BSE and mammogram group, there had been 622 instances of invasive breast cancer and 107 deaths. With out query, the initial line of defense in opposition to breast cancer begins with diligent BSE.

Other resources that are accessible to women consist of the AMAS (anti-malignan antibody screen) check and the NMP Nuclear matrix protein) check. Each these are blood exams that measure a certain protein in the blood that might indicate cancer. The AMAS check has been around for several years while the NMP check has not been accessible till only lately. Clinical trials carry on in this area.

1 additional tool that might detect an issue early is digital infrared thermal imaging or DITI. In 1982, the FDA authorized thermography as an adjunctive tool for breast cancer screening. DITI actions heat emitted from the physique and is accurate to 1/100th of a diploma. DITI examines physiology, NOT structure. It is in this capacity that DITI can keep track of breast Health more than time and inform a patient or physician to a creating issue probably prior to a lump can be seen on X-ray or palpated clinically. There are no check limitations this kind of as breast density. DITI is a non-invasive check that does not emit radiation.

The distinctive characteristics of cancer allow DITI to detect breast cancer at an previously stage of growth. As cancer is creating, it builds its own blood supply which is then reflected as increased heat in that specific region of the breast. DITI has a specificity of 83% which reflects a issue in its early stages of advancement not late-stage cancer as in mammography. An irregular thermogram carries a ten-occasions higher risk for cancer and a persistently irregular thermogram carries a 22-occasions higher risk for cancer.

Clinical research carry on to assistance thermography’s role as an adjunctive tool in breast cancer screening and the ONLY tool that actions breast well being more than time. There are now much more than 800 publications on more than 300,000 women in clinical trials. A current discovering printed in the American Journal of Radiology in 2003 confirmed that thermography has ninety nine% sensitivity in identifying breast cancer with single examinations and restricted views. Scientists concluded that a negative thermogram is powerful proof that cancer is not present.

Thermographic screening is not coated by most insurance coverage companies but is remarkably affordable for most individuals. For much more information or to discover a licensed clinic in your area, go to www.proactivehealthonline.com.

There are so numerous jokes about mammograms! Have you heard the 1 about the fridge doorway ?or the bookends ?or the garage floor? Many thanks to all the jokes, &ampquotMammogram&ampquot has become a household phrase, and it is not that I do not have a sense of humor, but as a mammography technologist, I’ve heard the jokes numerous occasions. I think the jokes are embarrassing for women and demeaning with regard to their physical bodies. Many women say, &ampquotIf males had to do this, there would be a much better solution&ampquot – this may or may not be accurate. Most individuals concur that mammograms are not ideal, but until there is a much better answer, I think it is time to seem at mammograms in a numerous light.

In Might of 1985 and 1986 I asked my physician to purchase a mammogram for me and he refused both occasions saying I was too youthful. There had been no screening mammography centers to which I could refer myself, so that was that. In December of 1986 at the age of 42 I felt a lump in my breast and had a mammogram the same day. It turned out to be Stage II breast cancer with 4 positive lymph nodes. I had a lumpectomy, a mastectomy and chemotherapy but chose not to have radiation. I obviously was not too youthful to have cancer.

In Might 1985 a mammogram cost much less than $sixty.00 and would have resulted in my getting small surgery to offer with a small lump. Delaying the diagnosis until December 1986 elevated the cost of the medical treatment I obtained both in dollars and the quantity of human struggling we faced. I say &ampquotwe&ampquot simply because a diagnosis of cancer impacts the family, pals and neighborhood of the individual with the illness. A timely mammogram would have saved us all a great offer of grief.

The typical perception is that getting a mammogram is a unfavorable experience I think this is a bad rap. Mammograms are fast and easy breast X-Rays which generally signifies two views of every breast ? 1 from the top and 1 from the side. They are carried out by pleasant, educated technologists who do their greatest to assist women really feel at ease. The technologists’ objective is to get the greatest films feasible and also to make the experience as fast and painless as feasible.

When individuals go for a mammogram the most important factor to know is that relaxation of the upper physique is the crucial to a positive experience. I know it is tough to unwind when you are apprehensive, but this is why I believe we require to decrease the public apprehension of this test. It is easy to unwind by taking some deep breaths prior to you have the test. By soothing your muscle tissue you will be a lot more comfortable through the test than if you are tense. An added bonus is that the films will be of greater higher high quality, as it is simpler to picture the back again of the breast shut to the chest wall if the pectoralis muscle tissue are relaxed. When it is carried out, you may hear your self saying, &ampquotThat was not bad at all!&ampquot

Some women are embarrassed to have a mammogram simply because they do not want anybody other than their companion to see and touch their breasts. The mammogram jokes include to their fear of discomfort and embarrassment generating it tougher for them to deal with, and I know of some women who avoid getting a mammogram for this cause. The test is carried out in privacy no 1 but a feminine technologist will be current. Technologists, for the most part, are delicate individuals who will do the test as rapidly and professionally as they can. Many women who have resisted the test for a lengthy time are amazed at how easy and painless it can be.

Mammograms consist of compression of the breast with a plastic plate to produce a higher higher high quality picture with the minimal quantity of radiation. Breast compression is meant to be tight, but it ought to not be painful and it only lasts for a few seconds. If you think about searching at a bunch of grapes ? it is tough to see them all from 1 spot. If you spread the grapes out, you can see more grapes. Similarly with the use of compression, more breast tissue is noticeable when the breast is spread out. With a flatter, thinner layer of tissue the quantity of radiation required is much less than if the breast is not compressed. The quantity of radiation you get is as decreased as can be accomplished if sufficient compression is utilized, and also if great higher high quality manage is maintained at the mammogram facility.

In the U.S.A. the cost of a mammogram runs in between $50 and $a hundred and fifty.00. There is monetary assist available from insurance coverage protection businesses, state and nearby programs, and from some employers. Make certain you do not permit the cost deter you from getting a mammogram as the cost of not getting a mammogram can be a lot greater both financially and emotionally. Look at for information on the web.

In most places in Canada, women can book their personal appointment for a free screening mammogram a doctor’s referral is not required. In places with out a screening system, mammography is available with a doctor’s referral and is coated by well being insurance coverage protection. Roughly 7% of women will be asked to have additional testing. Most of the time, adhere to up testing involves an additional mammogram with a numerous view to individual the breast tissue in a particular region to get a much better picture. In my analogy of the bunch of grapes, it is like getting a few grapes on top of every other and separating them out in a numerous way in purchase to see them much better.

There is controversy about the age bracket for women to have a mammogram. On a mammogram movie, normal breast tissue in youthful women generally seems to be dense normal breast tissue in older women generally turns to fat and seems much less dense. Studying mammograms on youthful women is like searching through a tree which is complete of leaves in summer time time. Studying mammograms on older women can be in contrast to searching through a tree in winter season. You can see why studying mammograms on youthful women is more complex than studying films on older women and this is the main cause why screening mammography is more efficient as women mature.

The fear of being diagnosed with breast cancer will often prevent a woman from getting a mammogram. My individual experience is that it is a lot much better to be diagnosed earlier instead than when the cancer has had chance to spread. The quantity of fear, discomfort, embarrassment, and emotional anguish from getting a mammogram does not even turn up shut to that of being diagnosed with an advanced cancer. A mammogram takes about ten minutes an early cancer can be dealt with in a affordable quantity of time, whilst an advanced cancer is a lot more of a time commitment. The quantity of fear that arrives with a cancer diagnosis is astronomical in contrast to that of a screening mammogram.

It is often suggested that women have a screening mammogram each and every two many years, but numerous individuals believe it is much better to have mammograms on an annual basis. It is most likely greatest if women can look for guidance from their doctors and make the decision on an individual basis. A number of components impact the decision this kind of as age, family background, common well being, and prior breast problems. In between appointments, whether or not or not you choose to have a mammogram each and every yr or each and every two many years, it is important to be conscious of any breast problems. If you notice anything unusual it is smart to get in touch with your physician. This applies even if your mammogram was unfavorable simply because there are a particular proportion of cancers that do not display on a mammogram.

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation encourages a 3-prong technique to breast well being:

? annual medical breast examination by a physician or educated well being professional
? screening mammogram
? month-to-month breast self examination

Breast self-examination can be a controversial issue. Many individuals do not recommend month-to-month self-exams, yet numerous women have found their personal breast cancers this way. The important factor to keep in mind is if you choose to do self examination, to do it correct:

? uncover the correct method from a physician or educated well being professional
? be disciplined and apply it often
? pick the same time of your menstrual cycle or the same day every month
? get to know your normal breast &ampquotarchitecture&ampquot
? make notes of your findings, draw photos and document dates
? make comprehensive notes of unusual findings such as dates
? check with your physician if you find anything worrisome

Following these actions will give you self-self-confidence and put you in charge of your breast well being. Some well being experts are worried that women will be unnecessarily alarmed if they find a problem with their breasts. I believe that an educated technique to breast treatment will reduce the fear that numerous women reside with, and they can look for guidance from their doctors in a more rational method. Most breast lumps are benign, but early detection of breast cancer is worth the extra cost of investigating lumps and other unusual findings.

Mammography is a peculiar test in some techniques. However, it is the gold regular at current and until there is a much better method of screening which is also cost efficient it tends to make great sense to have regular mammograms.

Digital technology now makes Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging available to all. There now is a completely safe test that can aid in diagnosis, treatment and monitoring with absolutely no risk or radiation exposure.

DITI, or digital infrared thermal imaging, is a noninvasive diagnostic test that allows a health practitioner to see and measure changes in skin surface temperature. An infrared scanning camera translates infrared radiation emitted from the skin surface and records them on a color monitor. This visual image graphically maps the body temperature and is referred to as a thermogram. The spectrum of colors indicates an increase or decrease in the amount of infrared radiation being emitted from the body surface. In healthy people, there is a symmetrical skin pattern which is consistent and reproducible for any individual.

DITI is highly sensitive and can therefore be used clinically to detect disease in the vascular, muscular, neural and skeletal systems. Medical DITI has been used extensively in human medicine in the United States, Europe and Asia for the past 20 years. Until now, bulky equipment has hindered its diagnostic and economic feasibility. Now, PC-based infrared technology designed specifically for clinical application has changed all this.

Clinical uses for DITI include, defining the extent of a lesion of which a diagnosis has previously been made (for example, vascular disease); localizing an abnormal area not previously identified, so further diagnostic tests can be performed (as in Irritable Bowel Syndrome); detecting early lesions before they are clinically evident (as in breast cancer or other breast diseases); and monitoring the healing process before a patient returns to work or training (as in workman’s compensation claims).

Medical DITI is filling the gap in clinical diagnosis; X-ray, Computed Tomography, Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), are tests of anatomy or structure. DITI is unique in its capability to show physiological or functional changes and metabolic processes. It has also proven to be a very useful complementary procedure to other diagnostic procedures.

Unlike most diagnostic modalities DITI is non invasive. It is a very sensitive and reliable means of graphically mapping and displaying skin surface temperature. With DITI you can diagnosis, evaluate, monitor and document a large number of injuries and conditions, including soft tissue injuries and sensory/autonomic nerve fiber dysfunction. Medical DITI can offer considerable financial savings by avoiding the need for more expensive investigation for many patients. Medical DITI can graphically display the biased feeling of pain by accurately displaying the changes in skin surface temperature. Disease states commonly associated with pain include Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy or RSD, Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid arthritis.

Medical DITI can show a combined effect of the autonomic nervous system and the vascular system, down to capillary dysfunctions. The effects of these changes reveal an asymmetry in temperature distribution on the surface of the body. DITI is a monitor of thermal abnormalities present in a number of diseases and physical injuries. It is used as an aid for diagnosis and prognosis, as well as therapy follow up and rehabilitation monitoring, within clinical fields that include rheumatology, neurology, physiotherapy, sports medicine, oncology, pediatrics, orthopedics and many others.

Results obtained with medical DITI systems are totally objective and show excellent correlation with other diagnostic tests.

Thermographic screening is not covered by most insurance companies but is surprisingly affordable for most people. For more information or to find a certified clinic in your area, go to www.proactivehealthonline.com.

Did you know that each year, 182,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and 43,300 die? One woman in eight either has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. In addition, 1,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 400 will die this year.

The above statistics are scary to say the least. If you have loved ones or friends that have been diagnosed with breast cancer, I am sure you’ve often wondered what, if anything, you can do to help them.

Here are some gifts that are appropriate for cancer patients, and their families to give encouragement, and support.

Probably one of the most important gifts you can offer, is the gift of your time: time to listen, and time to be with them as they accept the fact that they have cancer, and go through their treatment.

A small journal is another idea: they can put on paper their thoughts, their struggles, and their accomplishments as they fight this battle.

A book of inspiring, encouraging words will do wonders for their soul. One suggestion would be Chicken Soup for the Surviving Soul: 101 Stories of Courage and Inspiration from Those Who Have Survived Cancer.

Don’t forget a nice teddy bear they can hug, and a CD of soft, comforting, music.

Some cancer patients develop sensitivity to fragrance, so please stay away from scented items.

Again, remember that at times, all they need is to have someone to talk to, or hold their hand: be there for them!

For your information:

If detected early, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer exceeds 95%. Mammograms are among the best early detection methods, yet 13 million U.S. women 40 years of age or older have never had a mammogram.

Don’t miss your mammogram this year. Several national organizations will have a list of the facilities that participate in National Mammography Day. To find a place near you, call:

American Cancer Society
1-800-ACS-2345

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
1-800-IM-AWARE

National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations (NABCO)
1-888-80-NABCO

National Cancer Institute
1-800-4-CANCER

Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization
1-800-221-2141
