As soon as you invest your valuable time and power creating a scrapbook, make certain it lasts! There are a couple of easy issues you can effortlessly do to ensure that your scrapbooks look just as fantastic as the day you completed them, for many years to come.

The first thing to steer clear of is paper that is not lignin-completely totally free. You have most most likely heard that prior to, and it is true, but what is lignin anyways? Lignin is a stiff element of a plant that truly actually holds it collectively. Even although lignin is essential for plants and trees, you want absolutely nothing to do with it! After a whilst, lignin will set off photos, materials and other paper that touch it to turn brown. Yes, lignin-completely totally free paper does price much more, but it is a important element of preserving your cherished scrapbooks.

If the paper is not lignin-completely totally free, it will eventually discolor your photos and other materials touching it. So when purchasing paper for your scrapbooking tasks, be certain to look for packages that say “lignin-completely totally free,” because if it does not say it, then it most most likely is not.

Material is a big problem for preserving your scrapbooks, but sadly it is often overlooked. Numerous individuals presume that all materials are acid-completely totally free, but they are not. Silk actually goes via an acid bath during the production procedure, as nicely as numerous tie-dyed materials. This is not to discourage you from utilizing it, not all. Just try to make certain that no photos directly touch materials, and if you need them to overlap, make certain there is a layer of paper in between the two.

An additional consideration when utilizing materials is if the color will bleed off onto your web page and other issues touching it. To examine for this, reduce a square inch off and soak it in a glass of water more than night. If there is no color bleeding from it the next day, then there is not any danger to your scrapbook. But if you do see color in the water, or collecting at the bottom of the glass then don’t use that materials in your scrapbook at all.

When utilizing glitter, be certain there is a leading layer of spray adhesive to lock them down, or much better however use distinctive glitter glue exactly where the glitter is mixed correct in. If this is not carried out correct the glitter will slowly drop off, and loose glitter indicates scratched photos.

After you have planned the layout for your photos, be certain that you are utilizing the correct type of mounting tape for them! Normal mounting tape is good for buttons and bottle caps, but when it come to mounting photos you need to use distinctive picture mounting tape which is totally acid-completely totally free. If you don’t, your photos will slowly discolor. The tape ought to say “acid-completely totally free” correct on the packaging.

These are just a couple of easy issues you can do to ensure that your scrapbooks final and final.

A few years ago I read a statistic that said that genealogy was the second largest hobby in the United States ? second only to gardening. It was no surprise to me as I have been finding and documenting my family tree for almost 30 years. Over that time a lot of people have asked me, "Why genealogy? What do you get out of it?" There are a lot of reasons to find out about your family and I’ll cover just a few hoping that one of them will get you started.

Curiosity: A lot of people are just plain curious about where they came from, what their ancestors did, how they got here ? to this time and this place. Lots of people find themselves in this category when they are told that they are adopted. While they have adoptive parents, traditions, and history, they also have another history that calls out to them. Other people have lost touch and are curious about where people are, how they turned out, who they married.

It’s a Great Puzzle: This applies to me in several areas of my life besides genealogy. I have worked with numbers a lot ? particularly with market research. I just love understanding what motivates people to buy certain products, where they shop, how much they want to pay, and where they want to hear about those products. When my wife and I go camping I spend hours working crypto quotes in the sun ? fun and challenging puzzles that help me relax.

When it comes to puzzles, I don’t think anything can match the complexity and fun of genealogy. Just think about a jigsaw puzzle that has an almost infinite number of pieces ? some of them that don’t fit and some of them missing. Nothing can match the satisfaction I get from finding one of those lost pieces of the puzzle and putting it into place. These are puzzle pieces that lead to long-lost cousins and far-off places.

Hobby: I did a lot of market research before organizing FamilyTrackers, Inc. The company was started out of my belief that Internet searches could be much more accurate than those usually conducted on the Internet. Interestingly, there is a group of genealogists who resist a more accurate way to find information. They are not interested in any tools that make the job faster. "That is the reason I do my family tree ? to fill up my time. Looking into page after page of results is the part I like about genealogy. It’s my hobby," they said. Fortunately for me and for FamilyTrackers those who like the things I find most tedious are not a large portion of the market.

Leave a Legacy: Some people approach middle age or have a traumatic event at any age that prompts them to think about their mortality. "If I never meet my grandchildren, what will they know about me? What will they know about my parents? How will we be remembered?" Those of us who are fortunate enough to have ancestors in this category are indeed lucky. My grandmother wrote a short story about her trip as a young girl in a covered wagon from Illinois to Kansas. Thinking about it now, it must have been a dusty, hot, and miserable trip. The events that she wrote about were ordinary, daily occurrences that were taken for granted in her time ? something that she wrote about because the trip was out of the ordinary. Read the same story today and discover something that is unique to our experience ? herding cattle, rustlers, camping out every night. If you do nothing else with your family history, you should write down or record your life experiences in your own words in any way that you see fit.

Emotional Satisfaction: This is a huge reason for being involved in genealogy and one that I hear repeated by other people as they talk excitedly about their latest discovery. There are moments that happen during a search that are touching and immensely satisfying. This is the moment that you look at your great grandfather’s signature on your grandparent’s marriage license; put your hand on the baptismal font where your oldest known ancestor was baptized; stand on the ground where your great grandfather from the old country is buried ? knowing that your grandmother stood on this spot in front of an open grave grieving her loss. These moments are thrilling, goose-bump producing moments of a life time when you can almost reach across time and touch a person who you finally understand and know. This is a moment you must not miss!

Give Something Back: Lots of people get involved when they volunteer at their local genealogical or historical society. What a wonderful place to meet nice people who are willing to help you discover your roots. These groups are responsible for saving crumbling records all over the world and for making the information available to everybody. People who work in these places are almost always unpaid and give their time and effort on behalf of people like you and me every single day ? people they have never even met. This is important work and you can get the satisfaction of helping other people by volunteering yourself. It is easy. Pick up the phone and call.

Whatever your reasons, give genealogy a try. It is a stimulating hobby that will put you in touch with yourself and with a lot of nice people who are ready and willing to help.

Gene Hall is a genealogist with almost 30 years of experience and the CEO of FamilyTrackers, Inc., a world-wide genealogy exchange dedicated to serving the needs of genealogists, genealogical societies, professional genealogists, and transcribers all over the world.

The possible for enjoyment of Bonsai trees is enormous. These are the dwarf-sized trees that have been developed in the Asian countries of China and Japan for numerous hundreds of years. Most people have to go out to a forest to expertise the marvelous plants that we call trees.

But in the hands of a master Bonsai creator, the stunning trees can be decreased in dimension to the stage where they can be brought indoors to be enjoyed at any time. And the person who learns this age-aged artwork so that he or she learns how to produce this small piece of elegance experiences even more of a thrill — some thing carefully akin to producing a child, but with the added benefit of being in a position to shape and style it themselves. And these trees develop more stunning with age. Some renowned trees are as aged as 5 hundred years or more.

Naturally, they require nurturing and care, just as any prized possession does, especially things that are living and creating, in the exact same way a child develops. But the care that is required is not difficult, although it may require some time and some unique gear (not overly-costly). And, of program, these stunning trees can be purchased at any Bonsai nursery.

Usually it by no means enters the head of the admirer of Bonsai that they have the possible of creating them on their own. Turning into a member of any local Bonsai Club (they’re virtually everywhere) will offer all the assistance and direction a person may require. It’s thrilling to sit in front of one of these miniature trees and realize that this small tree in its small pot may or else be expanding tall in some forest somewhere. And you can pick it up, flip it, and see all sides of it with out leaving your chair.

They really are a marvel, these Bonsai trees. The phrase Bonsai by itself means “tree in a pot.” And there is not just a single species of tree that is adaptable to your specific region. There are hundreds — even species that would normally not be regarded as a tree, such as shrubs, bushes and even plants like roses and numerous herb species. But, no matter what type of plant you may have in your pot, it’s usually known as a “tree” in Bonsai language.

I was lucky sufficient to have been in a position to study with the great master, John Naka, also addressed as “Sensei” (master teacher). Sadly, Sensei Naka left us a few years back, and has been significantly missed by all who knew him and knew of him. He wrote the consummate manual on the subject of Bonsai, which was his true enthusiasm. He traveled all more than the globe to teach and judge competitions and he loved each and every moment of it. He created his home in Southern California, but the globe was really his, gaining enormous respect wherever he traveled.

If you are thinking of creating or buying a Bonsai tree, you must bear one factor in thoughts at all times — these are living things, and do require care and even love. You can’t go absent on vacation for a week or two and anticipate to find your tree alive when you return — unless you have wisely created arrangements to have someone take care of your tree for you. And that person must know intimately the requirements of the tree. A trusted neighbor who, upon seeing the tree for the first time, says, “Oh, is not that adorable?” is not the person to entrust your tree with.

The principle tree for a beginner to start with is the Japanese Black Pine (pinus thunbergii), primarily because it’s the simplest to develop and work with, and also that it’s available in most locations and climates. It can be grown anyplace in the U.S. and most of North The united states. It’s very hardy and adaptable to even adverse weather conditions and tends to make a superb-looking Bonsai tree.

If you are looking for a new adventure and pastime, I think you will be pleased and contented with your own Bonsai trees. It’s an especially great interest for people who are home-bound, and who require some thing to make them really feel vibrant and required, and to give them continuing joy. Yes, a great Bonsai tree is a tru

Okay, so you’ve been bitten by the Depression Glass bug, and those pretty patterns and pastel colors beckon you from the shelves of an antique dealer’s shop, a friend’s home, or maybe you’ve even discovered this special glassware on the Internet. How ever it’s come about that you’ve developed a yen for Depression Glass, you need to know where and how to start collecting it ? unless you’re made of money, have oodles of time on your hands, and don’t care whether you get the real thing or not. But if you’re like most of us, and those things don’t apply to you, here are a few tips to get you started on the road to what may very well become a fascinating and lifelong hobby.

Step 1

? Buy the latest edition of the book, The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Depression Glass by Gene Florence that boasts a recommendation from the National Depression Glass Association. Mr. Florence’s comprehensive book covers all the known patterns with photographs and current price listings, short histories of the manufacturers, information on detecting fakes and reproduction pieces, along with the production dates and colors of each design. All this, including the author’s own personal anecdotes about this addictive hobby, make this book not only one of the most useful tools from which to learn about Depression Glass, but turns learning about the subject into entertainment, as well.

Step 2

? Go to glass shows and conventions, join Depression Glass clubs, and visit antique shops in your area that carry it. It’s imperative to learn about this type of glass from hands-on knowledge in order to get a true feel of how it looks "in person." Soon you’ll learn many, if not all, the colors and patterns, and be able to distinguish reproductions ? most commonly made in Mexico and India ? from the genuine article. Color, patterns, weight, mold markings ? even the bubbles ? of real Depression Glass hold a uniqueness all their own.

Step 3

? Subscribe to magazines, newsletters, and other periodicals that focus on collecting Depression Glass. The National Depression Glass Association offers an online newsletter subscription on its site at www.ndga.net, and Collector’s News, a print magazine, frequently features articles of interest to Depression Glass fans.

Step 4

? Meet and make friends with an expert! There’s nothing like having a mentor to guide you when you’re in the process of learning something new ? especially about Depression Glass. Such tips as learning to use your tactile sense of feel to detect chips and cracks, holding a piece up to the light to help determine its authenticity, and other helpful information usually come from personal relationships. Attending shows, joining clubs, and visiting antique shops all provide opportunities to make friends with people who’ve been involved in collecting Depression Glass ? some for as long as 40 or 50 years.

The most important thing to remember when you begin your Depression Glass hobby, however, is to have fun! Even if you do make a mistake, get occasionally "rooked" with a fake, or buy or sell something you later regret, you’ll always have the experience of appreciating an interesting and fascinating hobby. And then, when you do make the find of your life ? well, that’s what it’s all about! All those "mistakes" soon become laughable, fond memories when you proudly display your wonderful Depression Glass discovery!

So get out there and make your start today or look for the next beautiful piece to add to your growing collection.

Here is some information about how to collect and use recycled objects in your crafts!

You can save a lot of money on arts and crafts supplies by saving things that you might ordinarily throw away! If you are building up a craft supply box for a classroom, daycare, church or school – get the parents involved by sending out list of these items so they can help out too!

Make sure to prepare each item for storage. Wash and dry anything that contained food or liquids. Remove labels from jars, boxes, containers, etc. Be sure to have a place for each type of item. Plastic shoe boxes or empty baby wipe containers are great for storage. If you organize well, the supplies will be ready and easy to find when you need them!

plastic milk jug lids
plastic milk jugs (1/2 gal. and gallon)
soda can tabs
paper towel tubes
paper grocery bags
plastic grocery bags
baby wipe containers
baby food jars and lids
frozen juice can lids
plastic containers and thier lids(like Cool Whip)
empty milk cartons (any size)
plastic soda bottles (any size)
soda bottle lids
junk mail
newspaper
broken crayons
camera film canisters
old computer and music cd’s
plastic produce baskets
magazines
popsicle sticks
old markers
mismatched board game pieces
cardboard or foam egg crates
candy wrappers
rubber bands

Now what do you do with all of this stuff?? Create! Here are a couple of ideas:

Wheelbarrow Planter

Need:

Laundry detergent scoop
2 plastic milk jug lids
6″ length of ribbon
potting soil
flower seeds (seeds)
craft glue
water

Clean and dry scoop and lids. Glue a milk jug lid to each side of the scoop to form the wheels. Allow the glue to dry. Tie the ribbon to the handle of the scoop. Fill the scoop with potting soil, and plant the seeds. Sprinkle the soil with a few drops of water. You can have the child make these planters as gifts. Enjoy!

Ocean Treasures in a Bottle

Need:

empty small clear plastic soda bottle
water
cooking oil
blue food coloring
beads
shells
glitter
coins

Remove the label from the bottle. Pour enough water to fill 3/4 of the bottle. Add a drop of blue food coloring. Add in the shells, beads, coins, and glitter. Fill the remainder with cooking oil. Place the lid on securely – you may want to wrap the secured lid with electrical tape. Now you have an ocean in a bottle – with treasure!!

If you have trouble getting the entire label off – you may want to place a label over it saying “(child’s name)’s Ocean in a Bottle”.

Have fun and let your children be creative with thier recycled treasures!

You put a great deal of time, thought, and effort into your scrapbook pages. Scrapbooks often are very personalized creative works that are very meaningful to the creator. Therefore, you should try to protect and preserve your work.

The most important way to protect your pages is by using lignin free and acid free products. Lignin free and acid free protects will reduce yellowing and crumbling. Also, use colored paper or ink that is resistant to fading due to age, exposure to light, heat, and other unfavorable conditions.

To protect your page from the outside world, use Mylar or page protectors. Special page protectors for three-dimensional pages are also available at most craft stores. These protection pages not only protect your objects but also reduce indentations caused by three-dimensional objects.

Copies can be easily made and placed into your scrapbook. Also, copies of your scrapbook pages can easily be made for other purposes.

The great thing about modern technology is that you can make copies of your baby announces, recipes, and calendars without a great deal of hassle. This reduces time and money. Furthermore, the ability to copy scrapbook pages allows more scrapbooking uses.

Simply scan and print pictures onto paper or vellum. Then, paste your pictures onto cardstock and add a ribbon or other embellishment. Quickly and easily you have another copy of your baby announcement, recipe, or calendar.

Okay, let’s get something straight? I do not advocate the purchase of United States coins strictly for investment purposes. Like most traditional collectors, I believe coins are to be primarily appreciated for their artistic beauty, historical connections, and the joy of pursuing them. However, it should be no secret that a significant number of us do add to our numismatic holdings while simultaneously peeking at the payback angle, too.

In truth, there are probably substantial numbers of traditional collectors who prefer to acquire coins destined to increase in esteem and value over time; treasured heirlooms and a source of pride to be passed from one generation to the next. On the flip side of this equation, it seems implausible that anyone would buy a coin with the hope or expectation to see it stagnate or decrease in value. Indeed, any commentator who suggests the words "investment" and "coins" should never appear in close proximity to one another is ignoring a heavily populated segment of our hobby.

Now that we’ve established that it’s not numismatic heresy to seek coins with strong upside possibilities, let’s get down to basics. The guiding principle is simple: Any coin that has demonstrated solid, consistent gains over a long period of time is likely to show continued growth in the years ahead. Easily said, but as we shall soon see, not so easily put into practice.

So exactly how does a one identify coins with a potentially bullish future? The best clues are revealed by analyzing the retail value trends over a long period of time for a given coin. Observing current prices alone does not yield enough information to correctly evaluate prospective price movements. What was the coin selling for two or three years ago compared to today? Dig deeper, and find the market price for the same coin 5-10 years ago. While you’re at it, get something from 20-30 years or more in the past, too. The more good data researched, the more reliable will be your final conclusions. Now whip out your spreadsheet and chart the numbers, or compute annualized rates of return. Flat or negative trends are bad. Positive trends are good. Steep positive trends are best. Any coin displaying a proven annualized growth pattern of at least 5-10% over a span of many years qualifies as an attractive option for the collector desiring coins headed for much higher price levels a few years down the road.

During the course of my lengthy numismatic career, I’ve researched the long term value trends of most collectible US coins. Thanks to my trusty computer, I’ve calculated annualized compounded percentage return rates and honed in on a handful of coins that have consistently beaten the overall coin market averages. Unfortunately, the blue-chippers are scarcely encountered. Perhaps it is this fact that explains why so many well-intentioned hobby purists scorn the idea of blending coin collecting with the profit motive.

Individuals whose objective is to satisfy their numismatic pleasure by assembling a collection certain to be the envy of tomorrow’s collectors must do their homework today. Remember to research historic value trends and evaluate growth potential based on previous performance. One last word of advice? never loose sight of the fact that you are handling artifacts of America’s past, and that all of us are merely their temporary custodians. Respect these coins and the history they represent, and you’ll always discover new avenues of adventure not found in most other investment opportunities.

Goevert is the webmaster of US Coin Values Advisor (http://www.us-coin-values-advisor.com), specializing in coin value trends and listing bullish US coins.
Stencil is a decrease-out type for an alphabets, figures, symbols and illustrations. Embossing and Marking Stencils offer high quality of function and save plenty of time. Stencils are obtainable in a wide choice of materials and fabrication techniques. Stainless steel and plastic are the most generally utilized materials. Thickness ranges from a couple of millimeters to .040 primarily based on the elements to be placed.

Marking Stencil Materials

Stencil materials can be a crucial variable in the stencil printing process. The dynamics of deposition and release are truly different in between metal and plastic stencils.

Plastic Stencils

Plastic stencils have a number of benefits more than metal stencils. Plastic stencils are simple to clean and store. There is no rust issue with plastic. Plastic stencil weighs a lot less than metal stencils. Typically plastic stencils are a lot thicker than metal stencils and little apertures might need a lot more aggressive cleansing these kinds of as higher pressure spray or ultrasonic techniques. Plastic is a lot more durable and flexible materials. Mylar is a special type of plastic generally utilized in making plastic stencils. It has one facet shinning and other facet dull to produce difference in between stenciling facet and underside.

The plastic stencil has disadvantages, as well. Because the apertures in the plastic stencil are drilled, only round designs are feasible. Also, simply because plastic stencil technologies is new, they are not as broadly obtainable as are stainless steel stencils and might be a lot more costly. Lastly, the plastic stencil might be harmed by metal squeegee blades and, consequently, only polyurethane or special blades (provided by the stencil manufacturer) are suggested. Plastic stencils have been when the application demands a wide variety of dot heights in a single print pass.

Metal Stencils

Metal stencils are obtainable at comparatively decreased prices. There is a complete freedom of aperture geometry. Metal stencils are when only little dots are required. We offer choice of metal marking stencils including brass stencils, zinc stencils and stainless steel stencils.

Zinc stencil letter sets of non-interlocking and interlocking zinc stencils in a variety of measurements. zinc stencils are helpful for making indicators and marking cartons and packing instances.

Brass stencil letter sets of non-interlocking and interlocking zinc stencils in a variety of measurements. Brass stencils are helpful for making indicators and marking cartons and packing instances.

Depression glass facts make for interesting conversation, especially when you’re at a convention or talking amongst other Depression glass aficionados. So here are a few items to get you started so you, too, can have some meaningful knowledge to put on the plate when you and your Depression glass collector friends gather ’round and chat.

English Hobnail leads the pack as the design with around the most available pieces still out there for collectors. Westmoreland Glass Company produced the English Hobnail pattern from the late 1920s to the 1980s, with the Depression-era pieces made in eight different colors. In total, 175 pieces of this particular design were created.

Rose Cameo, conversely, holds the record for the least number of pieces available in a pattern. The Belmont Tumbler Company held the patent for Rose Cameo, and only six pieces of this design made it to the marketplace: a plate, a footed sherbet, a footed tumbler, a berry bowl, and a 5-inch and 6-inch bowl. Because Belmont manufactured only tumblers and was trying to recover from a massive fire, experts speculate the actual production of this rare design happened at the Hazel-Atlas Glass Company, only a few miles away. A six-piece set of tumblers ? the pattern was only made in green ? in mint condition can be had for between $150 and $175 (prices may have changed since I wrote this).

The Jeanette Glass Company breaks all records for coming up with the most patterns. Jeanette made 11 patterns of Depression glass between 1928 and 1946: Sunburst, Homespun, Swirl, Doric and Pansy, Windsor, Sunflower, Doric, Adam, Sierra, Floral, and Cherry Blossom.

And then at the other end of the spectrum, the Fenton Glass Company produced only a single pattern of Depression glass ? the Lincoln Inn.

Of the 200+ patterns of Depression glass created, footed salt and pepper shakers from Hocking’s Mayfair design demand some of the very highest prices. Don’t flinch when (or if) you have a close encounter with one: They go for more than $9,000, which makes them 1 of the most expensive items of all Depression glass patterns at the time of writing this article.

Hazel-Atlas produced the Aurora pattern in beautiful cobalt blue for one year only ? from 1937 to 1938.

Jeanette and Federal glass companies manufactured the two most reproduced patterns, Cherry Blossom and Madrid. Jeanette produced 43 pieces of the Cherry Blossom design from 1930 to 1939 in five colors. Federal’s Madrid output numbered 45 pieces in five colors from 1932 to 1939. The popularity of these designs, of course, made reproductions impossible to avoid, but also makes the original Depression-era versions that much harder to detect.

This article, perhaps, may inspire you to dig deeper and find out even more about the Depression glass products we’ve all come to love. Hopefully, with these bits and pieces of trivia, you’ve learned something you didn’t already know. If you haven’t, then you need to be writing your own articles on Depression glass trivia and enlightening the rest of us! But if you have benefited, you can safely know that the next time you’re sitting next to that 40-year collector at convention, you, too, have more comments to make than just about "all those pretty, Depression glass colors!"

Until next time,
