What a fantastic concept! Start accepting credit score cards and watch your earnings soar. Nothing could be simpler. Or so you thought until you started studying merchant accounts. It can all get very perplexing. There is an simple way to find the greatest offer that fits your company. You will be able to evaluate apples to apples and have a clear picture of what the merchant account will cost you.

Let us take a look at some of the phrases you’ll encounter (in layman’s conditions) when you begin to lookup for a merchant account.

— Merchant Account Supplier – The company who arranges for your payment hardware or software and your ability to accept credit score cards.

— Nova – The company who processes the credit score card transactions and forwards them to the appropriate credit score card company for payment (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc.)

— Set Up Fee – The one-time quantity the merchant account provider costs to set up your company in their system. For this instance, we’ll use a set up charge of $65.00.

— Discount Fee -One quantity (there are other people) that Nova and the merchant account provider deduct from every sale as a portion of their payment for your merchant account. We’ll use a low cost charge of 2.5%.

— Per Transaction Fee – This is a second quantity that the two businesses subtract from every transaction as a portion of their payment. For our instance, we’ll choose a per transaction charge of $.35.

— Terminal or Gateway Fee – Whether you have a actual terminal or a virtual gateway by way of the Web, you will be assessed month-to-month costs to cover the use of that support. Let us say $ten.00 for our instance.

— Statement Fee – The charge for your merchant account provider to send an itemized statement every month. An typical quantity we can use is $15.00.

— Annual Fee – An yearly charge just for having your merchant account. For the yearly charge instance, we’ll select $35.00.

I know what you are pondering! But don’t give up prior to you start. Remember, I am going to show you a way to decipher all this info.

Select a quantity — any quantity. This will be the complete quantity of transactions you believe you may conduct throughout the course of a year. For our instance, we’ll use one hundred. Subsequent, select an typical transaction quantity for your item or services. We’ll say $175.00 for now. Lastly, we’ll determine a year’s worth of costs by utilizing the quantities above and inside the definitions.

Set Price Costs:

Set up Fee = $65.00 (one time only)

Gateway Fee = $ten.00/mth

Statement Fee = $15.00/mth

Annual Fee = $5.00/yr

Then multiply your believed quantity of transactions by the $ .35 per transaction charge. That equals $35.00. Subsequent, multiply the typical transaction quantity ($175) by the low cost price of 2.5%. That equals $3.94. You’ve believed that you’ll have one hundred transactions per year, so once more, multiply the $3.94 by the one hundred transactions. The complete equals $394.00. All that is left is to include them all up.

Set up Fee = $65.00 (one time only)

Gateway Fee = $ten.00 x 12 months = $120.00/yr

Statement Fee = $15.00 x 12 months = $180.00/yr

Annual Fee = $5.00/yr

Per Transaction Costs = $35.00/yr

Discount Price Costs = $394.00/yr

Complete Costs &#038 Costs For One Year = $819.00

Let us look at one other quick instance just to show you that looks can be deceiving.

This company provides the following prices:

Set up Fee = Totally free

Gateway Fee = $15.00/mth

Statement Fee = $ten.00/mth

Annual Fee = Totally free

Per Transaction Costs $ .thirty

Discount Price Costs = 2.35%

Software Lease = $24.95/mth

Primarily based on our exact same $175 typical transaction and one hundred transactions per year, we come out with the following figures:

Set up Fee = Totally free

Gateway Fee = $15.00 x 12 = $180.00

Statement Fee = $ten.00 x 12 = $120.00

Annual Fee = Totally free

Per Transaction Costs (one hundred transactions x $ .thirty = $thirty.00)

Discount Price Costs = $175 avg. transaction x 2.35% = $4.eleven x one hundred transactions = $411.00)

Software Lease = $24.95 x 12 = $299.forty (an extra charge our first provider didn’t cost)

Complete Costs &#038 Costs For One Year = $1040.forty.

Even with totally free set up and no yearly charge, this company nonetheless costs over $200 per year more than the first merchant account provider we previewed. Be very careful – the phrase “totally free” can frequently occasions be deceiving.

Merchant accounts can open a globe of new company for your company. They can offer a very handy way for your clients to pay – and for YOU to get your money. Nevertheless, when you store for a merchant account, be sure to use a regular unit of measure like we have outlined above to be very sure that you are getting the offer greatest suited for your company.

These days, buying on-line is a very common factor. Creating your purchases with out leaving your house is an appealing choice for a number of of us.
Several people think that buying on-line is risky, but the hazard is not greater than other people. Taking couple of precaution actions is the best factor to do unless of course of program you want to quite buying on-line. First of all, we ought to not shop from mysterious internet web sites. Generally seem for the companies you know or inquire somebody to suggest you a web site or a business that he/she utilizes. Nevertheless, if you are not specific of the vendor’s identification try to uncover his provide with and telephone quantity and appear at them. Also appear at the refund and return policies of the business in scenario they do not ship you the correct items or you are not pleased with their greater high quality. Another factor to be cautious about is the browser that you are using, it has to be a secured browser. A secured browser ought to consist of Secure Sockets Layer that scramble the info you are sending a lot more than the web, making the transaction a lot more secure. You can effortlessly acknowledge a secured web web site, merely because when you are filling in on-line orders or applications a closed padlock signal ought to seem at the bottom of the display. Another way to make specific that the web web site is secure is to appear at the URL if it begins with “https” it indicates the transaction is secure merely because the “s” stands for secure.

Another essential factor to be cautious about is your privacy. The info you are submitting when you use your credit score card on-line ought to be kept individual by the business that will get it, meaning it ought to not be handed on or supplied to 3rd occasions unless of course of program you concur. Most web internet web sites inquire for your permission to use individual particulars for immediate marketing, and if you feel unpleasant supplying them permission you ought to know you have the correct to object. Anyway, prior to submitting any individual particulars you ought to appear at the privacy policy of an web site if there are issues not apparent to you give them a telephone and see if your comprehending is correct or not. Do not submit any info, unless of course of program you are completely specific that your credit score card particulars are secure.

Turning into in a location to securely use credit score cards for on-line purchases is not only the buyer’s duty. The vendor has also his component of duty in generating specific secure purchases for his customers. Vendors also endure from credit score card frauds. They have to think about some security actions in buy for them and their customers to be guarded in opposition to on-line credit score card frauds. Safety and privacy are two essential components a vendor ought to think about into consideration. He ought to make particular the customer that the individual info submitted are kept individual and at the exact same time he ought to appear at the particulars obtained to make specific that he is dealing with the real cardholder.

It is a properly acknowledged actuality that on-line credit score card transactions are risky, merely because your individual info are uncovered and can be stolen by other people with the intention of using them to commit frauds. However, if the purchasers are cautious to whom they relies these info and the vendors are cautious from whom they obtain credit score card info, the hazards of on-line credit score card frauds decreases considerably.

The chief criteria for judging an ecommerce shopping cart are the quantity of credit card processors and shipping solutions it supports, and the quantity of individuals that assistance *it*.

Why? Simply because credit card processors and shipping solutions mutate all the time. Your cart will require updating. Which support works today may go out of business tomorrow, and depart you with the orders piling up.

Other important criteria are how easy it is to set up, and add products, and how easy it is for the consumer to use.

When you set up your shop check it utilizing a wide variety of the oldest and buggiest browsers you can find. If your web store works under them you are house and dry.

Right here are the cheapest, simplest, and most effective carts I’ve discovered:

1. Oscommerce (totally free) – http://www.oscommerce.com

A extremely great, full-featured, cart. Uses Php and MySQL. Not easy to set up for a ‘newbie’. Cookies are used to track the order. If you have PhpMyAdmin installed in your web account, it’s simpler. Requires a consumer to register prior to they can make a purchase. Supports a wide assortment of credit-card processors and shipping solutions.

Bad point: Technical assistance is restricted to the Oscommerce forums, which are not useful to newcomers.

Also, it may be a whilst prior to an update is available to a payment module. These are done by unpaid enthusiasts.

Good point: Oscommerce is supported by 1000′s of unpaid enthusiasts this means updates do ultimately arrive, and it’s less most likely to go out of business, unlike a commercial cart.

two. X-Cart (commercial) – http://www.x-cart.com

Comparable to Oscommerce. Requires a consumer to register prior to they can make a purchase. Lots of features and add-ons. Supports a wide assortment of credit-card processors and shipping solutions. Has an affiliate program add-on, and lets other people market products although your cart.

three. Dansie Cart (commercial) – http://www.dansie.net

A well specified cart. Supports a wide assortment of credit-card processors and shipping solutions.

Bad point: Evidently the Perl code is obscured, to make it harder to duplicate, which is irritating if you want to customise it.

three. Interchange (totally free) – http://www.icdevgroup.org

….there’s much more to Google than you thought:

With the wealth of information currently available on the Internet, for many web-users, Google has long been the search-engine of choice. But Google is so much more than just a search-engine. For example, did you know that Google runs a shopping site called Froogle? Or that for a small fee, you can have Google experts answer even the most obscure of questions? No? Well read on!

For the Group-Focused

Google groups is a free service that helps groups of people communicate effectively using email and the Web. Not dissimilar to the well-known Yahoo Groups, each group is provided with its own home page hosted by Google. This is a space where members can start new discussions or reply to older topics. Not only does Google Groups offer the most comprehensive archive of postings, including more than 1 billion postings from the Usenet bulletin board service, but it also organizes messages in a much clearer fashion than most of their main rivals, adopting the principle of the three fast Rs: Read faster, Reply faster and Retrieve your messages faster. However, it does lack some of the personalization that some of its competitors offer. For example, it does not offer the option to add photos to your group, nor the opportunity to customize the design and layout of the introductory page. Still only running as a beta-version, however, these features may well be added shortly.

www.groups-beta.google.com

For the Buyer-Focused

Froogle (fru’gal) n. Smart shopping through Google Froogle is a new service that makes it easy to find information about products for sale online, locating stores that sell the item you want to find and pointing you directly to the place where you can make a purchase. To use Froogle, look for the Froogle Product Search box on the advanced search page or go directly to the Froogle home page. Type in the name of the item you want to find and click on “Froogle Search.” Almost instantly, you’ll see photos of relevant products, reviews and links to the stores that sell them with the option to compare each store’s range. You can also add items to your own or a friend’s wish list.

www.google.com/froogle

For the time challenged researcher

Don’t have time to find the information you’re looking for? Then have one of Google’s 500 experienced researchers do the work for you. Ask your question, decide how much you’re willing to pay and get your answer by email in 24 hours. You will only be charged for your question if and when an answer is posted to it. And for the more academically inclined, there is also the new Google Scholar, which allows you to search specifically for scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research.

www.answers.google.com/answers

www.scholar.google.com

For the dictionary focused

To see a definition for a word or phrase, simply type the word “define,” then a space, and then the word(s) you want defined. If Google has seen a definition for the word or phrase on the Web, it will retrieve that information and display it at the top of your search results.

For the link focused

Got a website? Want to know who is linking to you? Then just type link:siteURL eg link:kto.co.jp and all will be revealed!

For the picture focused

Picasa helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open the program, it automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with folder names you will recognize. You can drag and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create new groups. Editing your photos is made simple too. With one click you can crop, remove red eye and fix the contrast and color. And Picasa makes it easy to share your pictures, automatically resizing and attaching images to email messages at sizes your friends will be able to open.

www.picasa.com

For the wireless mobile focused

Google mobile lets you search and view the Web on your mobile phone taking HTML pages normally viewed on a computer and translating them so that you can see them when you’re on the go. To get started, simply type in your search query, and Google will return the most relevant results in a format your phone understands.

www.google.com/jsky

www.google.com/imode

For the email focused

Although still in beta. Google’s new web email service Gmail, offering users a massive 1gb of storage space, has already caused a storm. MSN Hotmail gives 250 mb to free users and Yahoo! Mail 100mb, both of which were increased when Gmail was announced. With its search engine backbone, any mail sent or received can be quickly found, meaning there’s no need to file messages in order to find them again.

Using an innovative “conversations” view of email threads, entire threads can be viewed in the Inbox rather than just isolated, scattered messages. Another attraction for heavy e-mail users is that instead of folders, Gmail uses labels to help categorize mail. Working on the principle of ‘search don’t sort’, users can apply multiple labels to the same piece of mail, making it a far more flexible method than folders. Adding file attachments to messages is also easy and each message has a 10MB attachment limit (again, more than most other mail services).

As a beta release there a number of drawbacks however. The address book lacks the sophistication of some other services (eg Yahoo’s address book) and Google scans your messages serving up targeted ads based on their content, which may alarm some users concerned about privacy. It also lacks the ability to create HTML mail (although you can read it) and there is no virus filter, however it does block certain file (eg .EXE) extensions and a fully fledged virus scanning solution is planned.

Perhaps the biggest drawback though is that to use it you need to be invited by another Gmail user who has earned the right to bring in others. At present, the company won’t divulge details on when-or even if-Gmail will be made more widely available. In the meantime, check out Isnoop where you can pick up an invite from an available pool, though you may need to be patient.

http://gmail.google.com

http://isnoop.net/gmailomatic.php

Google Desktop

And finally wouldn’t it be great if you could search your desktop as easily as you do on Google to find your email, files, web history and chats instantly. Download Google Desktop and you can!

To increase sales on your website, you must accept credit cards. To process credit cards, you could apply for a merchant account through your bank or other financial institution.

Sometimes, though, you would be further ahead to use the services of a credit card processor. This is especially true when you are first starting out and have more limited resources. In this way, you may process credit card transactions without the high front-end costs and requirements of a merchant account.

Here, then, are just a few ways of accepting credit cards without a merchant account. I personally use all of these vendors and can recommend them wholeheartedly.

1. Clickbank

If your product is downloadable (such as electronic books or software), you might consider ClickBank.com . For a $49.95 initial fee, you can process credit cards and on-line cheques for $1.00 per transaction plus 7.5% of sales.

You receive additional exposure through free listing on their website and through the search facilities of other websites, such as CBMall.com .

As an added bonus, you have your own built-in affiliate program. You decide what commission (from 1% to 75%) you would like to pay your affiliates.

2. PayPal

PayPal.com has no initial fees. For just 2.9% of sales and $ .30 per transaction (and sometimes less), you can receive money from anyone.

Also, you can pay others by credit card or chequing account without supplying your personal credit information to the payee. PayPal can be used to collect money from your auctions, website sales, or even from friends or clients.

3. PaySystems

PaySystems.com can handle either intangible (downloadable) or tangible (shippable) products. For an initial fee of $49.00, you can accept all major credit cards as well as online checks. Fees are just 3.95% of sales and $1.00 per transaction. Alternatively, you may pay 5.5% of sales and $ .35 per transaction.

For this, you receive shopping cart, integration with third-party affiliate programs (such as ClixGalore.com ), fraud screening, multi-currency transactions, toll-free support, marketing tools, and more.

You did it again, didn’t you? Forgot until the last minute that birthday, anniversary, graduation, promotion, or fill-in-the-blank-here. No fear, online florists are here. No longer do you have to work in that lunch time stop at the florist shop. Now customized flowers are just a hop, skip, and click away. With the added bonus of being in an international market, most of these online florists offer same day delivery to cover up even the most forgetful patrons.

The time factor is just one of the conveniences that online florists offer over their in-store competitors. In addition to saving time and having online tracking to verify your order, you can get virtual pictures of bouquets, so you don’t have to leave anything to the imagination.

There are also some online florists who offer not only national but international delivery as well.

Online florists aren’t just for flowers, either. If the typical dozen roses routine won’t do, order some chocolate or a gourmet coffee basket. Personalized cards and gift ideas are a feature on most online florist websites. The virtual world of flora offers a variety that your local shop just can’t compete with. As the times move ahead, and faxes and email replace the post office, it would be foolish if the sentimental laboratory of florists couldn’t keep up.

Holding on to the romantic notion of the local flower shop? No worries. In most cases, the order you place online will get farmed out to a local florist who will make the delivery to your loved one, colleague, or secret admiree. So the “shop around the corner” is not lost, but in the spirit of the rest of the World Wide Web, the global community has in fact come to not only your email box, your netflix queue and your office conference calls, but now also to your local flower shop.

1. Do not use the same bank account to receive your earnings and for your daily essentials such as expenses, bills, shopping, etc. Use a separate bank account to deposit funds from sales and make regular transfers into a separate bank account.

2. Provide full contact details so that customers can contact you direct. Also make sure you return their messages in good time to avoid unnecessary delays and aggravation.

3. Make a clear statement in your terms and order page that customers should use their primary email address and not free email accounts. A high proportion of free throw away email accounts are regularly used to commit fraud.

4. Only allow orders to be shipped to the same address as the billing address registered to the customers credit card. Many cases of fraud use alternative addresses to get hold of goods without the original credit card holders knowledge.

5. Exclude delivery to known high risk countries. You can get this information from your credit card company. Use a pull down menu with a full list of countries eligible for delivery of your goods.

6. Consider setting a minimum spend value to help discourage fraudulent attempts to place orders for small sums repeatedly in the hope of getting goods with stolen cards.

7. Review orders manually to check if repeated orders have been made using the same credit card number.

8. Don’t put all your eggs into one basket! Use a minimum of two or more 3rd party companies for orders so that you will always have at least one ongoing payment system to continue to receive and process orders.

9. Refuse shipments to P.O. Boxes. Request the full mailing address before shipping any order.

10. Put a hold on unusually high orders until further verification can be made such as a phone call to the customer.

Other areas to consider are to prevent the incidences of chargebacks.

What Are Chargebacks?

A chargeback is what is when a customer contacts their credit card issuing company directly for a refund of a payment. The credit card issuing company will claim back the full payment on the customer’s behalf. For which a fee is charged to your credit card processing company. This cost will also be charged to you and you maybe subject to additional fees according to your provider.

This process can become a very costly affair if you as a merchant are subject to excessively high incidences of chargebacks. In severe circumstances too many chargebacks can cost you your merchant account. In this case your account will be frozen and inactive pending further investigation into all billing disputes.

In the case of fraud where a customers details were compromised you cannot be 100% sure of when or how this may happen until some time after the transaction. By that time you would have already shipped the product to the customer. In these cases you could stand to loose on the initial processing fees as well as the time and cost to ship the goods.

Top Tips

Conduct regular checks on your list of orders at regular intervals and mange your bank account and customer enquiries to the best of your abilities as a reputable merchant. Your continuing good standing as a reputable and trustworthy merchant will help your business as long as you maintain your daily business tasks to the highest standards and afford your customers the highest levels of customer support.

Maintain good bookkeeping of all orders so that you can track orders to verify the dates when an order was placed and any email contacts made to a customer for any disputes received.

This could help in cases where a customer has forgotten placing an order, or does not recognize the billing company name on their statements. You should also make it very clear on your order page and confirmation page as to the billing name that will appear on customer statements to prevent any confusion.

Greetings!

Friends and relitives ask us all the time ” How do sell from your website?” and no doubt you want to know as well. Over the next two issues we will be covering this very thing! We decided to divide it into two camps – tangibles and non-tangibles. Feel free to create a hybrid if you are daring, however, for the sake of simplicity – both for your visitors as well as your planning figure out which of the two is applicable and focus your efforts as needed.

Tangibles:

If you are selling products, it needs to be organized in some fashion. Be it by subject , or alphabet, or some other method such as price or season as an example.

Lets say you’re selling jewelry. You want to make it easy for your visitors to find what they’re looking for first. You should have different sections i.e. rings, necklaces, watches, etc. You could have various designers alphabetized. It can also be broken down into price range aimed at a target audience. Or maybe target the sophisticed jewelry shopper who’s looking for summer items or evening wear.

The idea is that it’s easy for them to find what they want and make a buying decision, then get on with their life. They will remember that the next time they need a particular item.

Non-Tangibles:

We recommend a clear organised presentation for non-tangibles as well. Because you are not dealing with a concrete product, information and services can be precived as being a bit nebulous and therefore suspect.

As such, you want to make it very obvious what you are offering and how the client will benefit. Be precise. As in everything, keep it as simple as possible.

The less work on their behalf, the quicker they can come to a buying decision. Examples, testimonials and references work to establish an air of trust and security, thus motivating the visitor to sign on with you.

The Sale:

The mechanism in wich the money goes from them to you and the product then gets into their hands, is of course of prime importance.

In regards to payment, the obvious choice is of course credit cards. It’s quick and easy on both you and your customers. Credit card payment is widly used and accepted.

And this can be set up realitively easy by you. There are commpanies online that are happy to do this for you for a piece of every transaction.

A small price to pay when considering that the sale may be lost due to too much trouble on your visitors behalf otherwise. 80% of something is better then 100% of nothing.

The Support:

I like to include extras. Links to other sites, pertinate information, or some other reason or benefit for the visitor to return to your site.

You do a good job with your site and they’ll browse around and maybe even make that impulse buy AFTER they get what they were looking for in the first place.
