The Modern Geek – Changing the Stereotype


The day of duck-taped glasses, suspenders and pocket-protectors are rapidly fading absent. It is getting tougher to pick the geeks out of the crowd.

Welcome to the day of the contemporary geek where the technically savvy not only embody intelligence but show an elegant mix of style and character. They are much less likely to be discovered at the bottom of the social ladder but influential in the lives of millions by their extremely thoughts alone. They are much more likely to style, develop and maintain the methods that impact the quality of existence for so many.

For some, the choices of runway design, expert athlete or pop singer were serious ones but the fascination with technology drives them to choose another route these are the contemporary geeks. They are hidden among the masses, only identifiable by the technology they carry buried amid their designer suits and attaché cases. The blackberry on their belt serving as a phone and providing access to all emails, the web, get in touch with info and much more. The portable music player in the shirt pocket that they use much more as a backup disk than for music. An attaché case enclosing a laptop so powerful the acronyms to describe it exist only in the world of geek communicate. A brain so thirsty for knowledge it consumes all information in the vicinity only to hunger for much more.

This is the contemporary geek. They enjoy sports activities but only on their Hello-Definition Television. They dominate in their basketball league but only following choosing the perfect sneakers to increase the usefulness of their go-to move. They are the teenagers who setup the parental controls for their mother and dad. They have events to celebrate turning 5 years old and for presents, inquire for pc products by title.

The contemporary geek is everywhere and with every new generation and the progression of science and technology, they are expanding to be the majority and will someday be commonplace.

As for me, I nonetheless maintain a pair of tapped up glasses on my mantel for old time’s sake.
