Do You Mind If Someone Screams At You?
A headhunter was on the other end of the telephone. He was searching for an assistant to a CEO/Owner for a small, but extremely effective company. Basically, he wanted somebody at his disposal evening and day. That didn’t appear like a huge offer. And then the next query came…”Do you thoughts if somebody screams at you?” As quickly as I could get past the sirens going off in my head, and visions of Dilbert comic strips, I replied, “Sure, that is not acceptable”. The headhunter continued, “Nicely, he probably wouldn’t call you names, but he is a pretty tough driving guy and he raises his voice a great deal”.
Sure, this is a true story, and it was my initial conversation of the day these days. It’s been enough to amaze and amuse me all day. Somehow I thought the days of screaming bosses were buried with the days of managing by intimidation. I guess I was incorrect! I can’t help but wonder if this guy has even heard of all the work becoming done about emotional intelligence, or worker retention. Perhaps he doesn’t study.
Concept To The Screaming Boss…
Chances are, your workers have 1 foot out the doorway. They probably even spend a part of their operating day reviewing emails and career postings at locations like Monster.com.
You are missing out on substantial amounts of information. Why? Simply because no one wants to be “the 1″ to inform you. What you do not know can hurt you.
Each and every time you indulge in a screaming frenzy your workers spend time telling each other, talking about you, and maybe even searching for methods to push your buttons. Following all, you have become the entertainment.
If your workers have conditioned themselves to tolerate and even disregard your screaming, they’ve probably discovered to not take it personally. Following all, your hissy fits are about YOU, your huge ego, your insecurities, and your absence of desire to create win-win, mutually beneficial relationships.
If your business is effective in spite of the way you treat your workers, just believe about how a lot more effective you could be if your workers loved to arrive to work every day.
And lastly, “What is your screaming costing you?” I am talking about in terms of bucks and cents. Believe in terms of unproductive workers, the way your workers treat each other and customers, turnover, well being advantages, and maybe even some worker sabotage.
The Bottom Line Is This…
Even the military is undergoing a huge initiative to become more emotionally intelligent. The drill sergeants of tomorrow will be extremely various than the drill sergeants of yesterday.
What could be various for you and your company if you stopped screaming and began healing individuals with respect and dignity?
It’s merely a choice you know.
