Whatever Happened To Customer Service?

Do you remember the last time you went into a store and the individual ‘serving’ raced over to you, greeted you with a beautiful smile, heaps of enthusiasm and stated, “Welcome to our store, what can I assist you with today?” And then listened attentively to what you had to say?

Does not occur very often does it? In fact, whilst I was composing this, I couldn’t recall when I had experienced it. I’m certain I must have however it would have been so long ago, I cannot remember.

Let me inform you what happened this week?

I belong to a nicely-known trade exchange which I have discovered very helpful for my business. I wanted to purchase a suitcase from a specific store which usually requires trade dollars. From time-time the store will restrict the use of trade dollars if they have reached their maximum for the month. Anyhow I quickly found this wasn’t heading to be my fortunate day.

I walked in and the assistant who was sitting down behind the counter (and remained there), didn’t smile. She barely acknowledged me with what appeared like a scowl. I had interrupted her reading time. (She was so busy, there was no-one in the store). I then politely (sure I can be polite sometimes) asked her if they were accepting trade dollars as I wanted to purchase a suitcase. She turned about to the proprietor who was sitting behind her doing some bookwork and repeated my query. The proprietor stayed seated, didn’t look up and informed her assistant “No”.

The assistant then relayed to me that “we are not accepting trade dollars at the minute, but we have great offers for cash”.

She remained seated all that time. I didn’t answer and walked straight out the front door with my cash sitting in my purse.

No matter how great their “cash” offers were heading to be, if I was heading to spend my tough-earned cash anywhere, it definitely would not be with them!

The ‘Colour- blind to service’ Duplicate Centre

I had spent thousands of dollars with a printing business over a few of many years. A few of occasions I was informed by one of the employees, when they’ve been snowed under “Mary’s too busy to communicate with you at the minute, I’ll have to get her to phone you again when she’s acquired more time”. Needless to say I didn’t remain with them.

The ‘Can’t do that’ Café

We went to a nearby café which we hadn’t been to for a whilst and I was informed by the waiter that “no, we cannot do that”. I wanted a specific type of sandwich which wasn’t on the set menu. I informed the abrasive young waiter that “sure, you can”. That acquired him frightened and the purchase I wanted turned up within five minutes.

Are Clients Essential to Business?

Of course they are. No clients, no business. Yet why are companies deliberately driving clients absent? It is ridiculous isn’t it?
