Whats In A (TLD) Name?
They’re pushing for a top level domain (TLD) exclusively for porn websites. I’m quoting from this write-up at http://www.babnet.net/en_detail.asp?id=1224: "There is also concern that the existance of .xxx will lead to legislation generating its use mandatory for sexually explicit material, top to legal conflicts more than the definition of “sexually explicit”, totally free speech rights, and jurisdiction."
That is like saying that the Louisville Slugger business in Kentucky should not make bats anymore simply because they can be used as weapons. Just simply because something can be dangerous when positioned in the hands of 1 intent on doing harm, does not mean that it should not exist. And to tell you the fact, the adult industry and the authorities are currently – and usually – at loggerheads with every other when it arrives to the First Amendment.
Let me begin off by saying I agree with the write-up in this respect: the existence of an .xxx TLD would be a God-deliver to mother and father trying to prevent their kids from accessing pornographic websites.
But the cause “.xxx” is not for me has nothing to do with the over-talked about quote. Not that everybody thinks along the same lines that I do, but, in accordance to the write-up, in purchase to use the .xxx TLD, you’d have to download certain web explorer plugins plugins that are categorized as spyware and adware. Spyware and adware? No many thanks. Lord knows how many hours I’ve spent trying to rid my pc of popup-inducing software and apps.
And $60 to register a domain (I hear that in the United kingdom that it will price about forty lbs)? Unless you as a webmaster are trying to cover all your bases (e.g. you currently personal mypornsite.com, my-porn-site.com, mypornsite.net, and so on, and would like to personal mypornsite.xxx), why bother paying that much? If you’re not purchasing a popular, higher-traffic domain directly from another webmaster, any decent domain can be had for much less than $twenty.
Moreover, ".com" is so entrenched in the layman’s mind, no other TLD arrives even shut to its popularity. I find that individuals do not keep in mind your website URL as nicely if it does not finish in a .com. I believe that’s why, with all the television programming out there, . is not this kind of a family name as much as TLDs go.
And, not to spread rumors or something (so keep in mind, you did not hear it from me
), I do not believe that the .nets, the .bizs, and the .infos of the globe do as nicely in the lookup engines. Nevertheless, the .orgs and the .govs, where the lookup term is appropriate, appear to have no issues ranking nicely in SERPs (lookup engine results pages). That is just my personal and un-scientific viewpoint.
Go on and attempt it: lookup for popular and generic phrases on your favorite lookup engine, and see how many listings arrive up ., .net, .biz, or .info. Or perhaps it’s the old "chicken and the egg" puzzle perhaps there are no results to be had simply because many prospective webmasters fear registering those much less popular TLDs in the initial location.
