To Get Your Email To Stand Out From All The Junk


We know that email advertising is a inexpensive technique to reach our clients, prospective customers and subscribers. However, the growing amount of unsolicited commercial email is clogging up the inboxes of everybody.

So how do you improve the probabilities of making your email stand out from junk mail? (And I’m assuming you are not sending out unsolicited email. If you are, shame on you.)

First, you want to make it simple for your subscriber or prospect to rapidly identify that it is from somebody they know — &quotyou.&quot

  • Make sure that your &quotFrom&quot line utilizes your full name rather than some thing generic like &quotWebmaster.&quot You want to burn your name into your prospect’s thoughts. A webmaster could be anybody.
  • Never use ALL CAPS in your topic line
  • Don’t use an exclamation mark &quot!&quot both.
  • Use the same phrase repeatedly in the topic line whenever you send an email. For instance, in my ezine, I use my initials DC in the topic line: &quotDC Web Good results Ezine.&quot So if you are making an ezine make sure you use the title consistently.
  • Put your prospect or subscriber’s name in the topic line, e.g. &quotSusan, Get This Special Report.&quot (This is simple to do if you use an autoresponder. Get one at http://www.GetResponse.com
  • Spend time on making an interest grabbing topic line that will entice the reader to open the email, it is as an important as making a headline for an ad. But be careful not to use phrases (this kind of as Totally free) that could target your email by anti-spam software.
  • Write two or 3 compelling topic lines. Then divide up your &quotOpt in&quot mailing checklist and test to see which topic line will get the most response or clickthroughs.

Apply these techniques and you stand a much better opportunity of having your email read, not sent to the prospect’s &quottrash&quot folder.
