Bass Fishing? Watch Out For the Gators!
Lakes in certain components of the country include more than some thing you want in your livewell. Alligators. They can be no more apparent than a rock or a log, so be careful. You want to get a bite, not get bit.
Let me share 1 of my bass fishing experiences with you.
This is bayou country. When I go to the lakes south of Houston, I have to watch for gators. So I’m always keeping an eyeball peeled for ‘em. But sometimes …
So final night I look and every thing is clear so I stroll down to the h2o and start bass fishing. Following a few minutes, whilst I’m searching around I see this large log. This large log that gets oddly thinner at the end up on the shore and thicker in the h2o, and has odd bumps on it. Maintain on .. that does not look correct. I look additional up the log to see how much it extends into the h2o and…
It has two large ol’ eyes … lookin’ at me!! And it is only ten feet absent (just a fast couple of actions for a gator). Ooookay!
I gradually and calmly reel in my line (on the outdoors – on the inside, I’m in complete panic) choose up my gear and move on.
So I go over to this other component of the lake, and now it is dark so I get up on a pier. I’m sitting in the woods in the dark and I hear some thing strolling down the pier in the direction of me. Not hefty sufficient to be human footsteps. With what small bit of starlight there is, I can see some thing about the size of a medium dog coming at me. What do I do now?
Well, I can’t see what it is, but I can inform it is not a dog. So I get aggressive in the direction of it to see if I can scare it absent. Fortunately, it worked. I pointed the suggestion of my fishing pole in the direction of it and it scampered absent.
As it left I thought it looked like a big raccoon. Probably absolutely nothing to worry a lot about following all, but they can be aggressive and rabid. But it is creepy in the woods in the complete dark not becoming certain what’s around you.
Then, in the h2o, I see the outline of this massive catfish swim correct up beneath me the pier I’m on. Wow! That is a large 1! I’ve acquired to move bait up and fish beneath the pier and catch him!
So, I decide to place a light on it and see if I can get a much better look at this monster. I aim the spotlight directly down into the h2o and…
Hey, look at that weed … there were no weeds along this pier previously. Hmmm. So I lean additional over the pier to get a much better look at this mystery weed …. YIKES!
That is NO WEED – It is A CLAW – A Big CLAW!
There is a gator correct beneath me!!
Apparently (and I was able to confirm this on follow up visits) the gator is savvy to the fact that people catch fish and place them on stringers around the dock making a great free and simple meal for the gator.
That is sufficient. I’m goin’ home. Neglect all about that macho stuff and learn how to play guitar.
