If You Dont Know Where Youre Going, Any Road Will Get You There
What do you want to achieve?
Prior to you really set up, decide what you want to achieve with your business. If you are currently in business, review where you are going ? are you obvious about this?
Why not take some time out to think about and write down your objectives for your business?
Create it down
Research exhibits that only 3% of people write down their objectives, and on typical these people make ten times these who don’t have objectives. As well as study exhibits that people with up to date created objectives are as much as 3100% more successful than people who do not have up to date created objectives.
And make sure your business objectives don’t conflict with things you want to do personally. When you are thinking about your objectives, think about and write down your personal objectives as well. And if you are a multi proprietor business you will obviously require to talk about your responses with your colleagues, and agree on a shared set of objectives for the business.
Intelligent objectives
Make sure that the objectives you write are Intelligent. What does this imply? It stands for:
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Relevant
Timed
Apply these five measures to every of your objectives.
What does it imply to you in reality?
Once you have created down your goal as a Intelligent goal, think about what the effects would be if you didn’t achieve itl. What is the "pain" that you and these you adore will encounter if you don’t achieve your goal, ie ill well being, poverty, unhappiness and so on. (Why do this? Simply because recognising this discomfort is an huge motivating force that will help you to work even harder to make sure you don’t fall short!)
Then decide what you will acquire when you be successful – ie wealth, well being, happiness, a prosperous retirement and so on. What will you see, hear and really feel? And what else will your success permit you to achieve/do? And lastly write down the key things you will require in purchase to achieve your goal. For example, it could be new sources, contacts, skills, actions and so on.
Repeat this process utilizing a new sheet for every single goal you would like to achieve.
Prioritise
Next try and prioritise the objectives you have created. Lay out all of your objectives in front of you and decide which are the most important to you, which are less important and which (if any) are, on reflection, not important following all.
For every goal that is still important work out how you will achieve it, break it down in to smaller actions to make it easier to handle.
Strategy in timescales to do every step, write them into your diary or planner. That way you make reaching your objectives part of your every day activities.
Look at your where your time goes
Its really worth having a appear at how you spend your time at the moment, and comparing this to the way you would like your life to happen. Then you can match your objectives into this as nicely.
To do this, appear at the personal objectives you set out and checklist out the broad locations of your life that are important to you eg family, friends, business, well being, fitness, money and so on Make a note of the percentage of your waking time that you would like to spend in every of these locations in an ideal world (make sure that the column adds up to one hundred%) Estimate roughly the percentage of your waking time you think you are really spending in every area at the moment, – just a rough and ready approximation right here, don’t waste time attempting to get pinpoint accuracy? the intention is just to get a broad really feel Then calculate the gap between the two Looking at the gaps does it recommend that you require to make changes in purchase to achieve your objectives? If it does, what changes are you going to make?
Next actions
Believe carefully about everything you have just done and believed about. What are the implications for what you are doing in your business and your life – and what you should be doing?
Transfer the things you should be doing to an action planner. Maintain this someplace where you won’t shed sight of it, so that you are reminded on a every day basis about what you want to achieve.
If you think it would help contact an advisor, mentor or coach to talk about what else you can do to achieve your objectives. Occasionally it helps to go via the entire exercise with a third party, who can be more goal and help you to focus on the correct things.
Evaluation your action planner. Prioritise it. And start taking action!
And keep in mind, however good your ideas and intentions are? they will come to completely nothing unless they are turned into action.
So focus on taking ACTION. And start taking it today.
